Check Clearance Process
In just about every business, there are checks written everyday. But many who write checks do not know how that process works for the person who receives your check. When you chose to write a check over using a credit card or cash, it begins a long process than few know about.
The cashier who you hand your check to will scan it through an automatic check reader. It is here that your account number is recognized, the routing number and the number of the check too. Then the computer system will check for any returned checks for that account number and the check is then approved. All the checks taken that day at that business are all totaled up and taken together to be deposited in the bank.
Your check gets verified again at the bank, sorted and posted and kept to be mailed back to you with your monthly bank statement. This is just one form of check clearing as individual companies have their own procedure.
